Digital channel numbers

I have a HDTV (Samsung) which has a digital tuner, and although my primary TV service is Directv, and I only have basic cable through Brighthouse, I have found that in addition to the truly basic channels (2-27 and a few others up to 99) there are also 2 other types of channels which I receive:

  1. Digital versions of local channels, such as 610-1 (WTSP HD), 628-1 (WFTS HD), etc.
  2. Numerous channels with designations like 81-453, 88-109, etc. I think these are referred to as QAM's, but I could be wrong. Most of these apparently represent scrambled stations, and thus I cannot view them, but there appear to be several which are not scrambled. For example, 81-453 is CNN. What I would like to know is if these channels numbers are documented somewhere. This would not only allow me to have a list of what each of these channels is, but also allow me to remove all the scrambled channels from my TV's favorite channels list. This would be especially important because every time the power goes off (happens a few times here in Tampa during the summer), I have to go through this process from scratch.
Can anyone help me? I tried a few searches in this forum but couldn't seem to find an answer.

There is not a channel list available to the public as BHN does not offer a "clear qam" type service. Meaning they do not offer you digital cable without a box or cable card. if you do find the channels hey good for you :) you can watch them, but beaware they do change some channels change very often, so CNN maybe on 81-453 today and some other channel tomorrow.

So basically your only option is to A. get a cable card which stores channel mapping costs about 2-3 a month from BHN, or do the channel search feature like you have been.

...What I would like to know is if these channels numbers are documented somewhere.

Why don't you start a topic here and let people who discover what's on what channel post it...then THIS PLACE would be the documentation.

It is often pointed out that the channels move around, so a grass roots approach would probably be best.

I have a little printed guide I made up for my bedroom TV that lists some of the QAM numbers. The problem is that no two TV vendors seem to agree on QAM numbering.

Also, Bright House has some of the channels with proper labeling (e.g. 610-1 for CBS), but others--even major broadcast networks--don't seem to have them, forcing me to use the QAM numbering.

Here's an old list I made myself. It's probably out of date, uses proprietary QAM numbers, YMMV, etc., etc.:

79-565 FOX (WTVT)
79-580 ABC (WFTS)
91-560 NBC (WFLA)
91-584 MORE (WMOR)
106-557 PBS
106-562 CBS (WTSP)
106-576 CW (WTOG)

Here's another list given to me by someone else... it has different QAM numbers. Again, out of date / YMMV / disclaimers apply.

77-24029 CNN
80-2616 WUSF-DT
80-2617 WUSF-DT
80-2618 WUSF-DT
80-2819 WUSF-DT
91-2604 Florida
91-2605 WEDU
91-2606 WEDU /VME
91-2608 WFLA-HD
91-2632 WMOR-DT
113-2692 unknown
114-2141 cnbc world
116-2611 WTTA-DT
118-24300 on demand
119-24520 nba league pass
120-24162 gems
135-23011 wfts-tv
135-23012 wmor-tv
135-23014 wtvt-tv
603-1 NBR
610-1 WTSP-DT
613-1 WTVT-DT
624-1 WTOG-DT
628-1 WFTS-DT

Good luck. Please post your own results if you have corrections.
