I have the same question but do not have the option for the free set up. I'm in bush Alaska and Direct does not provide service in my area. However after doing some research I think I am low enough in Alaska to receive the signal. Dish network works here but I want NFL football. I have an old dish network system and bought an old direct tv box off eBay. Will the lnb I have be interchangeable if it is about 11 years old?

If it's a single round dish, it'll probably work (I think back then Dish and Directv used the same dish with a different LNB), but you'll only receive what's on 101 (meaning no HD), and your signal levels will be pretty low. If it's an oblong dish it won't work. There is a dish specifically designed for AK/HI that can get 99/101/103.
For future reference though it's better to start your own thread versus bumping one that's 5 years old.
