EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 6, 2007--DIRECTV HD fans across the country will have the best seats in the house to every Major League Baseball (MLB) postseason game this fall. To date, DIRECTV is the only national multichannel video provider committed to carrying both FOX and TBS's exclusive postseason HD broadcasts.
TBS in HD is scheduled to launch on DIRECTV in September and for the first time ever will feature exclusive broadcasts of the MLB Division Series and National League Championship Series. DIRECTV will also offer FOX Sports' coverage of the American League Championship Series and the 2007 World Series in HD.

"Our goal for some time now has been to make DIRECTV the premier destination for HD fans across the country and we are very close to making that a reality," said Eric Shanks, executive vice president of DIRECTV Entertainment. "Our customers are counting on us to provide them with not only the most HD programming, but also the best quality HD programming available. We can't think of a better way to watch the MLB postseason on FOX and TBS than in DIRECTV's glorious HD."
TBS in HD will be added to the DIRECTV HD programming lineup, which will be home to the up to 100 new national HD channels DIRECTV will make available by year-end. All this release tells me, is that D* expects to have TBS-HD up by October. Even there, there's a fudge factor where they say it will be one of the 0-100 new HD channels they will have by the end of this year.

Playoff Games in MPEG4 or MPEG2? Better be MPEG2 for those of us still clinging to out HDTIVOs

Another brilliant post, thanks M, geez man, aren't you tired of this?

It's a press release, that's what they are for, not news don't you get it?????

The games on TBS-HD will be MPEG4.

I thought I read a long time ago directv would be using a channel like 95 for the tbs games in hd, perhaps not now that they got the agreement for a fulltime channel, but they might still if the plan was already in motion.

It could have changed from now and a long time ago, how ever long that might have been.

No facts, just speculation here: It would be a good idea for D* to mirror the MPEG4 TBS-HD feed as Channel 94-97 MPEG2 for the folks out there who are still "legacy" subs. I have the MPEG4 IRD's so no biggie for me, but I would be mildly pissed if I couldn't get the playoffs because of my MPEG2 equipment.

Can anyone tell me why this sounds like only D* is the only provider offering HD postseason baseball? I realize that dish hasn't said one way or the other regarding TBS-HD, but they still offer fox in HD to the eligible markets. So why is this really news other than to say D* believes they will have TBS-HD running by the time the playoffs start?

Stated and restated. It's just a freaking press release, okay?

I suspect I will need to use my HR10-250 for fox OTA and HR20 for tbs.

D* has not released my local channels in HD yet and I only have my antenna connected to the HR10.
