Washington, D.C. (December 18, 2007) -- The Tennis Channel will start a High-Definition channel on December 31 and DIRECTV will carry it at launch, according to the network.
Eric Abner, a spokesman for The Tennis Channel, tells TVPredictions.com that DIRECTV will be the sole carrier of the channel on its debut.
However, Abner added that the network hopes to secure more carriage agreements in 2008.
Tennis Channel HD will be a simulcast of the network's standard-def signal.
Abner says the Tennis Channel has been shooting original productions in high-def since early this year. Starting next year, the channel will start producing live tournaments in HD.
The channel will debut on December 31.
