DIRECTV Transponder Map ~ Data 6/5/2024

Bally Sports San Diego has been dropped. There's now an INFO channel on 694 directing San Diego viewers to 693 Bally Sports SoCal for the Clippers and Ducks

The feed itself still exists, but it has dropped the San Diego branding and is now a regional variation of Bally Sports SoCal
Will that DTV TPN/VPID will be repurposed for part time sports?

Roland-Garros experience now live

A record for 387 Recipe.tv is testing with one of those weird transponderless entries. The channel is already available to stream via the app.

Targetted offers testing for Sports Pack On us, Entertainment, MGM+ for 99 cents and Gemini.

Removal of the secondary alternate for Bally San Diego

In addition to the previously mentioned demise of Bally Sports San Diego:

Cinema Dinamita, who will be replacing ViendoMovies on 6/15, is now testing on 9450

Updating WTLW Lima's callsign to WLMA, 2 years after the change happened

Roland-Garros cleanup

Duplicates of 235 *TASTE and 354 *CHDR are now testing with those weird transponderless entries.

9757 MLBEI On Us has been removed, 9753 Sports Pack on Us is now live, the rest of last week's new targetted offers are still in test mode

EDIT: Update for streaming/app users. The San Diego feed of Bally SoCal is available again via channel 693, the rest of Bally San Diego territory viewers in areas like El Centro, Palm Springs, Nevada and Hawaii already have their respective SoCal feeds.

The TL/DR version, they want to keep it as a backup option if something were to happen to D16. It won't be able to deliver continuous programming at the inclined operation, but they could still use it to deliver guide data and software downloads during an outage.

Thank you, Nelson61 and KylL416. I just noticed the FCC filing SAT-MOD-20240607-00126, and found that you have already discovered it. This was unexpected, I was looking for a filing to dispose of D9s to a graveyard orbit. DirecTV thinks they can keep D9S in an inclined orbit at 101 until May 31 2028. As Kyle said, It will only serve as a backup to D16 to provide guide data and software download capabilities, and only for portions of the day, due to its inclined orbit. which conserves fuel. They would have to rearrange their current methods to distribute that metadata over the D9S spotbeams, since according to the data they filed with the FCC, D9S has no National Ku beams.
The whole DIRECTV satellite infrastructure depends on metadata transmitted from 101. I can't conceive of a way that current STBs could function withiout Ku band DSS modulated transponders at 101.

D9S could serve as a temporary band aid if T16 were to catastrophically fail. The more long term solution to such a failure would be to move D8 back to 101W. When D8's license was extended to June 2025, DirecTV said that they expected to file another extension in 2025, and expect that D8 would have a useful life through February 2034.

D9S has no national beams active, but it does have a bunch of national beam transponders it could light up on short notice. Of course those would be of little use unless it is possible to move it from inclined to standard orbit significantly more quickly than D8 could be moved from 119 to 101.

Seems like it would be a lot simpler to shut down the remaining MPEG2 markets on D8 and move it to 101. It could have a bunch of transponders lit up almost immediately, and be available full time not part of the day since it wouldn't operate on an inclined orbit.

I mean, are they really so intent on blocking Dish from getting those transponders at 119 that they accept this inferior backup plan?
