With the launching of the new D8 bird is it possible that locals from the 72.5 bird will be moved so that people requiring a second dish can use only one dish like the phase 3 for all programming? Sorry but still a newbie to this forum.

Sure its possible, but I'm not sure why they'd undo work that was already done after setting up second dishes and swapping out dishes and some boxes vs. adding new services.

In the expansion mode that seems to be going on at least, I wouldn't expect it, no.

DirecTV-8 isn't a spot beam satellite, it is replacing an existing KU bird at 101 now. In additon to replacing the current KU it will also provide new KA space, but KA is only planned to be used for the HD expansion. Many believe that the DirecTV-9S bird, set to launch next year will be used to provide the locals currently on 72.5 at 101.
