I have two older DISH network receivers & I wonder if they still work with DISH Network. I have gotten conflicting reports. They are models 3500 (brand new) & 4700 (slightly used).

Do you have the new DN241 Smart Cards, Are they active on a account? If not active I don't think Dish will active them, nor would they sell you smart cards for them.

I was thinking of passing them off to a friend & neither is currently active on an account. And actually, the 3500 is still sealed in its original box so I assume it has its original smart card. I guess I would then only have any luck with the 4700, right?

The 3500 would actually be closer to a 3000 as it has front panel buttons instead of the up/down/off combination on the 2800.

It actually is EXACTLY like a 3000, the 3500 is simply an HTS branded receiver.
They also made 4500 & 5500 receivers, that were exactly like their 4000 & 5000 cousins.

If you activated it and could get Dish to send you a card for free then I would do it. They will send you a new receiver next year to replace it when they go 8PSK with everything. If you are going to use it a lot though then you may not want to wait until then and deal with a slow receiver unless you are not going to do a lot of the receiver's extra functionality like guide and stuff.

the 4700 to 4900 update was like 4-5 years ago, sure there are still 4900 updates in the stream, but I am pretty sure 4700 to 4900 update is long gone.
seems I remember people having to jtag those updates.
I could be wrong....

One of the 4700's last updates, I never tracked down which one, was to prep the 4700 for the transition to a 4900. If the 4700 was removed from the stream before that, it won't be able to take the current 4900 software.

mcf57, could you plug it in and bring up the Sys Info screen?
