A Hopper 1 requires a sling adapter and internet connection to use Dish Anywhere to watch TV. Both the Hopper 2 (HWS) and Hopper 3 have sling and wireless built in.

You can buy the adapter on the Dish site or I have one I sitting on a shelf I can sell you. IIRC, they are about $50 new. PM to make an offer for the one I have.

You would need the adapter to view live tv or dvr recordings on the receiver. You shouldn't need any thing if you want to view on demand material. And you will not be able to view anything from a EHD no matter what your setup is.

If you use a receiver that does not have Sling, like the Hopper 1, you would need a Sling adapter for full functionality of DISH Anywhere.

One of my Hoppers is having spontaneous reboot problems. I guess it's time to trade it in.
