Dish Bankruptcy - Business as Usual

I couldn't even figure out these new slots. Not that I tried.

I don't even remember how to play poker.

Or even score bowling. Sigh. SWMBO can no longer bowl due to hand injury.
lol a lot of the new ones it took me a while to figure out what exactly I'm supposed to get excited about.

Then I finally realized, not much. Lol.

Have had some good handpays on some of them, but far and away moreso on the older machines.

I used to play the coin slots at Circus Circus, would win literally buckets of money. Posted payback % at the time was 97.6 IIRC. Those machines were so popular that you had to fight to get a seat, then about two years ago something happened and they tightened them up and hardly anybody plays anymore. Last time I went (December) I lost a hundo on a coin slot machine there, and won zilch.

I didn't know Circus still had actual coin machines. Only place I've seen them in Vegas (or anywhere actually) was El Cortez downtown.

Which I haven't been to Circus.

There was something back in the day of carrying around that bucket of quarters and having the black fingers. lol

Yep, they're in the "Slots O Fun" building facing the Strip
Good to know. I enjoyed the ding ding ding of the drops. When I found those at Cortez I was surprised.

Last time I was there in January, I walked a lot of the strip but just didn't make it that far north.

Got to Wynn/Encore and had enough. Walked in the high limit there, and got a taxi and said take me back to the normal folks good sir.

Correction. That was in March. January I stayed all downtown.

I think Golden Nugget downtown still has some also
I think they did. Don't anymore. Or at least that I saw.

Funny thing. The trip, a buddy met me out there, and we were checking out the strip as he hadn't been in many years. I had payed the uber/taxi stuff so he said I got the drinks at our next spot.

We sat at some bar at either Wynn or encore, can't remember which. Both ordered our drinks.

As the bartender was bringing the check for him I made the comment. This place is nice. Be a good place to catch a game when we come back during football season.

He was signing his name on our two drinks (we hadn't gambled there at all) and he said "no the f*%# it wouldn't." And showed me the total 😂

I was shocked, as like I said I don't ever pay for drinks when I'm gambling. Or rarely anyway.

Sheesh. lol.

I only played one slot machine in my life. It was at the Fort Erie Ontario racetrack years ago. I put $20 in hit the button or pull the handle whatever it was back then and doubled my money. Cashed out and got yelled at by eight different people telling me I should keep playing. I figured I was up 200%. That was good enough.

Yeah, pricing out there has gone off the rails a little bit. There was something in the news recently about a $26 bottle of water at MGM. If I'm paying $26 for water, it BETTER come with Grey Goose in it!
I loved my Dish service for nearly 21 years, it was simple, easy to use and worked reasonably well. Over the last 3 years or so customer service was ignored while Charlie wanted to get into the Cellular business, big mistake, he forgot what side of his bread was buttered and by who.

My contract recently expired and being faced with over a 35% increase I gave up and went to YoutubeTV. And while there is a learning curve everything I had with Dish is there with a few more remote clicks the only downside is using the LG TV's smart remote which is a bit clunky.

Honestly, I think Dish is now living on borrow time on the backs of their customers and will die from Charlies own sword.

I think when a bankruptcy judge looks over the assets left and what Dish owes they will say it's over and that they can't logically come back and be profitable. They will then probably dissolve the company to it's creditors.

Perhaps, Echostar will survive without Dish and update and provide Directv hardware which would be a real plus as their hardware is not as good as Dish.

In all honesty, I do and will miss some of the conveniences of Dish Satellite TV but considering the cost of YoutubeTV there is no reason to stick with Dish, it's a sinking ship. Youtubetv is bargain in comparison. Not only that I don't loose service when it rains hard or snows and at half the cost!

I hate to say this, the biggest plus, I will never have to deal with Dish Customer services and the rate games they play! I hope everyone here with remaining Dish service do well.

BTW, I have a bunch of equipment that needs to go, 2 922 Receivers, 2 722 Receivers, 2 Wally's and a Playmaker, all that I own and working. Anyone interested drop me a line.

Dish/Directv both will be around (likely combined and rebranded) for at least another 10-15 years.
Yes, the number of subscribers will continue to decrease over time but that is not the end of the world as some like to predict.

And, the business will make money during that time, perhaps not much, but it will be profitable.

centurylink has fiber aswell

There is no Fiber with centurylink at my home location also there is no Quantem Fiber at my location. Both are saying it is comming. There is Xfinty home internet since comcast has cable wired to the house. They all have autopay get $10 off. There is Starlink i am not sure if you get rain and snow will it work in this frozen tundra minnesota.

centurylink 80g speed that i have works okay. No problem when i watched football with netflix once. Only amazon Thursday games i had problems. In the world of televison viewing Echostar Dish Network is hard to beat by any rival.
The package i have $88 for americas 250. Simple to operate the receiver and fast.

But how many cable channels will survive?

I've had customers who have had Starlink for several years and say weather does not affect it. Their antennas have a defrost mode where it will heat up to melt any snow and ice that builds up on it.
