Dish Bankruptcy - Business as Usual

Do people keep them till they die?

I cycle mine out every three years or so.

Someone gets a deal on a still REALLY good tv, I get a discount on a better one.

I'm not sure how long TVs would last now tbh, my last plasma I sold was at least a decade ago. Probably more.

Those however, I did love them. The tech simply passed them by.
Plasma was absolutely fantastic, I retired my LG last year (25 years old) when the control board died and couldn't find another. The OLED replacement is good and much bigger and has a bunch of HMDI ports (no more DVI converters)

But its true the blacks might not be quite as good but at least I don't need to crank up the air in that room anymore.

I can assure you, that any OLED has better black levels than even the best Pioneer Kuro Plasma. And you will save on AC in the Summer, but may pay a bit more for heat in the winter. 😉

Modern OLEDs have better (true/infinite) black levels.Pioneer Kuro plasmas (especially the later 9G and 9.5G models like the KRP-500M/Elite PRO-101FD from around 2008–2009) were legendary for the deepest blacks of any mainstream flat-panel TV of their era. Measured black levels on well-performing or voltage-tweaked units typically reached roughly 0.0005–0.001 fL (about 0.001–0.003 nits/cd/m²). In a dark room they looked extremely close to true black and far superior to contemporary LCDs or earlier plasmas.

Modern OLEDs (WOLED or QD-OLED) achieve true black of 0 nits. Each pixel is self-emissive and can be completely turned off, so there is no residual light or glow. This produces infinite contrast and blacks that are measurably and perceptibly deeper/cleaner than any plasma, including the best Kuros. Early OLEDs already surpassed the Kuro on black level by around 2013, and current sets maintain that advantage while adding far higher brightness, 4K/HDR capability, and other improvements.

That plasma will likely outlast every OLED made to date!

And keep its blacks!

When I at my uncle I watch tv on his plasma, that thing is 15+ years old look better then most tv I seen to date, sadly it has lines that come and its 720p tv that "except" 1080p but it native res is 720p go, but blacks are still amazing and motion clarity is still better then most set today.

I just got an 85 inch bravia II. the thing's insane. there's no digital blur AI does an amazing job with audio!!! It smokes OLEDS :biggrin :p. Though the price will make you cry:biggrin. It just begs for a ps5 to be connected to it:);)

Added the Hopper Plus and a wireless Joey 4 to my account after the recent updates to the software (MultiView).

Liking the ability to access apps from Google Play, MultiView, and improved picture quality from the newer android equipment.

Decided to hook up my old Pioneer Elite plasma.

I hope Joey 4 on the Pioneer is like the rest of my TVs, and my computer monitor with the android Dish equipment.

We will see.

Will be walking away from t.v.. it's to expensive, and frankly, i have an issue paying to watch advertisements.

It's been more than 10 years since we had a traditional TV service. I tend to pay more for streaming without ads if I am interested in something - and if it isn't worth that premium then I pass. All the ad-based plans did was raise the bar further to get my money.
