Hy guys!
Long story made short. I had to have my 922 replaced. Not I can not get remote access to work on any computer. There are several strange things going on.
1. I can get on line and see everything on my DVR but can not watch them on the PC. I can set recordings and everything else just fine but when I try to watch anything I get "Error 2" try again later. However, I can tell it to start the show on my TV and it starts on the TV.
2. I can watch live and recorded shows using my Dish app on my phone and
and everything works fine. I can turn off the 3g and 4g on my phone and just use the wifi connection it still works fine.

I know the 922 is "talking" to my router because I can see everything on the DVR and start recording on the Tv using remote access.
Dish has no idea what the heck is wrong. I have tried using several different computers in and out of my network using Internet Explorer, Firefiox and Google Chrome.
This is quite frustrating because I upgraded to the 922 for the remote access feature and am paying extra for it, but cant use it!
Does anyone here have any suggestions?
Thanks!

Which version of IE are you using, and what OS is this on?
The "Error 2" is that inside the normal display window area?
If you can get the display window open, right click and do "about" to so you have the version number. If you can't get the window open, then you'd have to look at the plugin in your respective browsers' plugin list.

*Take note* installing the plugin under IE does not install the plugin under Firefox, so you have to install the plugin under both, and could have different versions in both.

And lastly ... instead of going in via the Dish Remote Access way ... try going through DISH Online - Your TV Everywhere. Watch. Record. Rent.
Code:
that's [URL]http://dishonline.com[/URL]
. Dishonline (dot) com appears to be the full sling side mixed with hulu like content. It should be able to do at least what you do now (show dvr etc) but take it with a grain of salt.. the last time I looked (week or two ago) the dishonline.com version of DVR shows everything ... timers and recordings, not just recordings.. and with no way to filter.. the point being to see if you can get to a recorded item in that DVR'd list and get it to play.

If not.. we'll start looking more at things..

and did the CSR's you talk to even know what the error code 2 was?

The big push is to check your upload speed, as I mention ANY time there is an issue with connection.
yeah.. i was chatting with matt on that too.. I keep thinking everyone uses as I do.. my first use of Sling is inside my house network.. so the upload doesn't count ... but didn't think the OP might be trying from outside ... and while it would work with the phones ... the communication channel there would probably default to the lower bitrates (sd lite?) so that they wouldn't be pushing upstream that much..

So waiting on OP. :)

Hello everyone. I am sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I had a death in the family and as you might imagine I had a lot of things to attend to.
TG2, I am trying with Firefox 4.0 and Chrome version 10 and IE 8 on running on XP.. None of them work. I have tried outside my network at several friends houses and get the same results even using their computers.
I can see everything on the guide and dvr but they just wont play. However I can see and watch everything using my Android app so I know everything is ok with my router. Another strange thing, if I check a program on line and tell it to show on TV, it will start and show on the TV just fine. My upload speed runs between 3 and 4 mps, down load speed is 22 mps,so I know that isn't a problem.
I just cant figure this out. The 4 csr's I have talked to have no idea what error code 2 is. They just give me the run around saying they will write it up and send it on up the line.

Well lets be honest about this.. a lot of Dish itself doesn't know whats going on. I just had a chat today, and the Tier 2 chat person (Rebecca <USB>?) tried to tell me that the content I see is streamed to my SlingAdapter from the internet, and that's why it needs an internet connection. What makes me mad is that people outside know more, and it wasn't "Rebecca's" fault that she didn't know.. but DISH's fault for not providing good intel to their own employees. It would even seem there isn't a place for them to "look it up" ...

But ... also to be honest .. there are a few good techs ... and so far the Dish Internet Response Team has been helpful far more than "Dish Proper". So it may take a bit.. but I think eventually it will get fixed (just not sure yet on the how)

One thing to try might be to force a different server to be used for servicing DISH requests ... it takes editing the HOSTS file and setting an IP address for a different server than you normally use, if you want to go that route, I could put together copy/paste info for you, though I'd need to know what server you're currently on (after you login, and select to go to Dish Remote Access, the URL in your browser should be dishXX.sling.com ... with the XX being a specific server.. that's whats needed to start down this path)

Sorry to hear about your loss.. Best wishes to you and yours.

I have a request in to get the code numbers and their meanings into troubleshooting steps (and to me personally). Shouldn't be too long on that.

Also, I was thinking about something here. What are the specs on the computers themselves?

Hi TG2
I am hitting server 13. If you can tell me other servers to try I know how to edit my host file.
Tony T,
The pc are verious They are all 2 to 5 years old. Two are running XP service pack 3, both at 3 mhz with 4 megs ram. One is running VISTA 64 quad core at 3.5 mhz with 6 megs ram and one is running Windows 7 at 3 mhz with 3 megs ram.
Thanks to both of you.

Are we serious about the megs of ram? That would certainly be an issue. I think you mean gigs.

Also, is the receiver plugged into a power strip or surge protector, or straight into the wall? Same question for the SlingLink?

Tony, yes gigs!
more information for you. This is a replacement 922. The old one worked just fine using remote access, but ever since I got this replacement I cant remote access except to my phone.
The 922 is on a power strip just like the old one was. No sling link used.

I am hitting server 13. If you can tell me other servers to try I know how to edit my host file.

I'd start on an XP machine ... vista & 7 aren't as easy to edit.

Follows are entries ready to copy/paste ... 70.42.244.156 is the IP for dish6.sling.com.. I'd recommend rebooting after editing the hosts file, even though you shouldn't need to ... its always nice to start fresh (same after removing these entries) and of course after removing them, IE will probably cache the entries for 15 to 30 minutes so a reboot might clear that too.

... and for anyone that sees this thread and doesn't know, with the hosts file having entries like this, the browser will still show the same server you usually log into, its just that under the hood the browser will connect with the IP that's listed, rather than the normal IP

Code:
 70.42.244.156 dish1.sling.com
 70.42.244.156 dish2.sling.com
 70.42.244.156 dish3.sling.com
 70.42.244.156 dish4.sling.com
 70.42.244.156 dish5.sling.com
 70.42.244.156 dish6.sling.com
 70.42.244.156 dish7.sling.com
 70.42.244.156 dish8.sling.com
 70.42.244.156 dish9.sling.com
 70.42.244.156 dish10.sling.com
 70.42.244.156 dish11.sling.com
 70.42.244.156 dish12.sling.com
 70.42.244.156 dish13.sling.com

The first time I tried using a modified host entry IE failed to connect all together ... a timeout ... but Firefox went through ... but then attempting to launch the actual display "TV" display area, FF wouldnt' connect ...

I closed Firefox & reopened, and that time FF went through just fine ... then IE worked as well. As near as i can figure happens.. is that somehow our accounts are initially tied to a server ... and barring a supernatural act, seems not to change too often. When forcing the connection like this.. I suspect it causes the server in question (dish6) to *force* a refresh of your connection information or some other magic..

summation if at first.. wait .. close app, restart app ...

Also I'm surprised the Sling Loaded 922 isn't supported by the SlingPlayer stand alone app .. though I've not looked in depth ... when I started futzing with it today it didn't support anything not labeled with the word "Box" LOL.

That is surprising, because with a little 2 minute process the SlingBox is supported in DRA. Hm.

Nope, same thing. "There was a problem connecting to your device (Error 2).Please try again later.
But still works fine on my phone.

and that was after reboot plus kill app restart? (only 1 instance running of which ever browser, only because leaving anything in memory = mixed bag)

If so ... then my next bag of tricks would call for manually checking the connection (ActivePorts - lists active programs and ports they are using, command prompt with netstat -an .... again looking to make sure the IP's are the ones set forth in the hosts file, and then hitting the router up for logging any/all connection attempts out for the machine in question)

Also, what version of the sling app is installed in your browser ... with the "error 2" on screen not sure if you can right click and do the "about" should be 1.4.0.115 ... you could also uninstall it and the "SlingHealth Class" plugin if so installed (IE8 has them, FF only shows the player) ... I would go through DishOnline.Com to download and install the plugin again.. *not* DRA ... DRA was behind when I updated a while ago.. and was only able to find the update through DishOnline.com ...

first.. I updated my post while you were answer it.. :)
second .. there was some sort of script attached to your post... every time I tried to reply there was a script trying to run and it looks like it was trying to update the plugin ...
inside the script I see this
Code:
var recentVersionPC = '1.4.0.117';
so maybe there's another new version up.. and looking at it.. it was activateing your link everytime I tried to start a reply.. LOL

last... I'd PM you but its not available for your account (you probably didn't enable) you can reach me on AIM if you want.. PM me and I'll give you my ID .. would be faster at working this through..
