dish compatability

can anyone tell me if upgrading my smart card would inhibit me from getting a signal from a dish 500 which is different than the dish on my residence. I use the 500 at my cottage and it worked until i had to upgrade the recievers.

Well what receiver do you have? Older dishes have different setups.
