dish decline

What do you mean? The cost going up, endless disputes with greedy local networks, Hopper3 is still not good enough?
I have a neighbor who always flips between Dish and Directv. Currently, he has Directv and crying out loud with recent Directv price increase.

Edit: I don't mean to sound sarcastic. just curious about what you apparently don't like. I personally love Forum. Checking it here everyday and feel like I consider many members as friends who taught me a lot!!

How much life do the satellites have left?

By the time the satellites die, they will probably be able to switch to streaming linear channels live and it will look the same as it does today, just deliver by internet instead of satellite. If they stream live rather than on demand, just one output stream can be picked up by limitless receivers - not a great demand over IP.

Most of the pay streaming services are already streaming live programming, many including locals. And each of those "limitless receivers" still need bi-directional communications with the servers feeding the programming.

I thought DISH hasn't launched satellites for a while now and no plans to do any more!

They have not launched a Sat since 2010 (Echostar 15) and have none planned.
