Dish DVR/PVR? or DVD recorder with Hard Drive?

I currently have a 811 receiver, with the HD package.

I realize that the 921 (when available) records High Definition material. Just wondering what some of the other SD Dish recorders do with High Definition material. Like what happens if you try to record Discovery HD? Or what happens if you try to record a OTA broadcast in HD? will the picture end up 16:9?

Was thinking getting something to record Dish and locals that are available via OTA. Will a Dish PVR do the trick? Or will a DVD recorder with a hard drive be a better choice?

The only Dish DVR that can handle HD at all is the 921. The others simply won't tune it in so far as I know.

So what happens if you try to record a HD station? It is lower quality? Or just doesn't work?

I don't think it will even tune in an HD channel for viewing or recording.

HD channels don't even show up on the 510 guide. I use that same setup, an 811 and 510 side-by-side.
