Sorry I haven't returned to this subject sooner.
The simple answer to my simple question is a software version issue. VIP 612 DVRs with software version L6.00 are already receiving DVOD movies in HD. Those with software version L6.01 are not, but will in a future upgrade. L6.01 cannot be downgraded to L6.00.
