Dish Model 811 - P2.89 Software Update

May I suggest FahrenHYPE 9/11.A true documentary revealing the lies, distortions and misreresentations of the drop-out socialist Michael Moore. You would do well to view it and learn the truth.

This is an 811 289 thread correct? Boy what a rathole happening. As to your issue with 289, are you seeing any other HD broadcasts with same behavior?

Yes, thanks for remembering the *point* of the thread WJD.

I always had rare jumping video on HD channels only ... and all I can remember for sure is Discovery HD. It was maybe once every 2 weeks, and would only happen maybe once or twice. A channel up/channel down cycle fixed it (now that I think of it I could prob. have just gone to Guide and returned). I have never seen jumping video on SD channels.

What happened the other night, just a day or two after I got 289, was ridiculous. The channel was unwatchable. No recurrence yet, but then I haven't watched a HD channel for a prolonged time since then.

Hi, Smith, P.

Do you have any information regarding the Second Phase of P2.89?

Thanks in advance!

Since my "upgrade" from 2.82, I've noticed a couple of glitches:

1) Usually the first time I try to tune in Fox Digital, I get a black screen then a box that says I've lost the antenna connection. I can channel up/down and it tunes in just fine. The Sig Str is 87%. It only happens the first time I try to tune in Fox. No other station does this and it does not happen on my 6000.

2) When bringing up the EPG with the picture showing in the corner, I often get a black screen for a few seconds and audio stuttering for a few more seconds while the picture is locking in. I never had these effects while on 2.82.

3) I tend to leave my 811 on most of the time and after about 3 days, I start getting a lot of pixelation and breaking up of the signal.

4) Why can't this box keep Guide info if left on, it goes brain dead and will not even keep current/next.

I never turn the boxes off, maybe this is not such a good thing? My 942 has a standby/screen saver mode? Should I be turning the 811 off during the day when not in use?

Thank you for your reply WeeJavaDude, but I already knew that information. It was my mistake that I didn't specify what kind of information I wanted. Thanks again, for the reply!

I want to know the BootStraps, BuildConfigs and Serial Numbers of the DP811s that will be in the Second Phase of the firmware upgrade. Do you have that information?

Yeah seemed like I was on the 284 forever but I finally got the 289 lastnight.

I got the report from today: first and third group do not show any changes; for current receivers the range is 59229524-64034523.

So, I wouldn't accept those claims from "close" to source ppl who are talking about "phases" ;). Stream data is the primary source. I think JohnH could provide to us the info; I'm feeling that right, seen his posts about his set of receivers and PC and found that programs you could download for free.

Thanks, Smith, P.

You are right, the "phases" info is not that accurate. Stream data is the best source.

Can you tell me a little bit more about the programs?
"...found that programs you could download for free." [Smith, P.]

2 811's for me. One got the upgrade last night. Dolby Digital fixed!!! Now my RCA auto-detects no problem. :D Can't really tell if any other changes have been made, aside from the obvious menu look change. Can't tell you if the infamous BSOD is gone cuz I don't use the OTA tuner (none avail in my area!!!).

Went from 2.84 to 2.89 yesterday. First problem noticed this evening. Watching NBC digital OTA, Law & Order. Coming through in Dolby D. Cut to commercials and the sounds goes dead. The receiver still shows the same Dolby D detection. Out of commercial, sound is still dead. Changed 811 channel to satellite, sounds comes on in Prologic. Switch back to Law & Order, Dolby D is good again.

Never had this problem with any software version before 2.89, and I've had this same setup for 18 months. The receiver is Denon AVR-3300 and I haven't had any of the pre 2.89 Dolby D issues that others reported. So far it's only happened once tonight. Next time I'll try turning the receiver on and off first.

EDIT - UPDATE - Jay Leno just went to an ugly tone that fortunately was not quite loud enough to blow out the speakers. First switched the receiver to another input and back to the 811 - same ugly tone. Switched the 811 to satellite then back to digital OTA NBC and it's fine. This is for sure a new 811 bug. At least, it's new for me since 2.89.

2.89 is a big step backwards for me. This new bug could destroy the speakers. My wife isn't home. When this happens and she is watching, I'll be hearing again what a mistake it was switching to POS 811 :(

Sad thing is, she's right. 2.84 was working real well for me. I wish there was a way to revert.

I'm having the same problem as Keith.

I get a lot of rain fade here in Hawaii. As soon as I get a slight signal loss, the sound goes out and makes a weird noise. I don't get any OTA signal so I found if I switch channels the sound comes back.

Bummer since I didn't have any problems with the previous version.
