Has anyone attempted to upgrade the memory in a 4900 in order to allow the guide to hold more information and elminate the "wait" time?

Not possible Even if you could stuff more ram in it, the software wouldn't recognize it.

Also...You might want to consider selling it and getting something newer. I sold my old 4700 for $60 a few months back

Thanks, this receiver is in a spare room so, I may just live with it. I recently upgraded to the 721 and didn't realize just how slow the 4900 was until I experienced the 721's speed, great unit....

One would have to put something in the receiver so that it would be recognized as a different receiver that downloads the extended EPG data.
