ENGLEWOOD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 18, 2004--EchoStar Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: DISH) announced today that its DISH Network(TM) will offer local TV channels by satellite television to South Bend and Elkhart Ind., and the surrounding area. The following local TV channels will be available: CBS Ch. 22 (WSBT), NBC Ch. 16 (WNDU), FOX Ch. 28 (WSJV), PBS Ch. 34 (WNIT), and Independent Ch. 46 (WHME).

This is the first time local TV channels are available by satellite in South Bend, providing an alternative to local cable TV service. DISH Network also provides digital video recording technologies, international channels and high definition TV to the South Bend area. Local channels will be offered at $4.99 per month for customers in the South Bend-Elkhart area until the local ABC affiliate is added to the programming. Customers can call DISH Network or a local satellite TV retailer to learn how to get a free multi-satellite dish antenna required to receive the local channels in the South Bend-Elkhart area.

"The availability of local channels on DISH Network gives TV viewers in South Bend an even more compelling reason to switch from cable," said Michael Schwimmer, senior vice president of Programming at EchoStar. "Customers who are fed up with the cable companies' outrageous rate increases now have access to local news, weather and sports via all-digital satellite TV - only on DISH Network -- at a competitive price."

DISH Network offers local channels via satellite to 10 counties in the South Bend - Elkhart area they are: Elkhart, Fulton, Kosciusko, Lagrange, Marshall, Pulaski, St. Joseph, Starke, Berrien and Cass counties. With the addition of South Bend and surrounding areas, DISH Network offers local channels in 110 cities and their metro areas, and in 46 states nationwide, plus the District of Columbia.

DISH Network now offers local channels as part of its new Digital Home Advantage promotion. This promotion allows customers free installation for up to four TVs, with no commitment and no hardware to buy, starting at $29.99 per month. This includes more than 60 popular TV channels such as ESPN, Discovery and the Food Network, as well as local South Bend TV channels. DISH Network has frozen the lowest all digital TV price through January 2005.

For more information on DISH Network, visit www.dishnetwork.com, call 1-800/333-DISH (3474), or contact your local DISH Network retailer. For downloadable, print quality images of DISH Network equipment, installations or the DISH Network logo, visit www.dishnetwork.com/content/aboutus/presskit/print/index.shtml.

Just a note, both the ABC and low power WB stations in this market are owned by Weigel broadcasting. They have not yet reached any agreements with DISH for retransmission rights. I would plan on paying $4.99/mo for locals here for quite awhile

WNDU now available to dish subscribers

NewsCenter 16 can now be seen by satellite subscribers.

The Dish Network started offering local channels beginning Thursday as part of it's satellite services in the area.

It's the first time a satellite provider has offered this service in Michiana.
