I just have a question. My satellite has gone out and I called Dish Network and they said it would be NEXT Sunday before they could come out and fix it!!!. It says...." One of the satellite inputs or switches is not connected properly". Is there anything I can do to fix this, or will I have to wait?. I have a 6 yr old who is driving me nuts too...Please HELP!!!!....LOL.

Try a reboot by either unplugging the power cord for 30 seconds and then plugging back in or holding the power button until the power light goes off.

Might try doing a check switch by pressing Menu 6-1-1

I tried rebooting it and I also did the Menu 6-1-1. It has 1-2-3 for satellite there and it says 1 & 2 are connected but under # 3 is has a X. Beside tran under all three numbers they all have X's. When I did the test it says that about the inputs or switches are not connected properly.

I am unfamiliar with the DishPro switches, but is that a powered switch. IOW, is there a place where the cable from the receiver goes to a "brick" that is plugged to a light socket and then up to the dish? If so, unplug the switch for about 30 seconds and plug it back in. I've had this issue happen with my old SW64 switch after a brief power outage (less than a second blip).

Also, you mentioned that you did a 6-1-1. Did you actually do a switch check again or just look at the results that were there already? If you haven't tried a switch check, try one again!

Good luck!

Tony

Yes,I've done the switch check and that's when it says that about the inputs or switches are not connected properly. We had a really bad storm here Friday night and that's when it messed up I guess. I never turned the tv back on until I got home from work Saturday and it was messed up.

Well, a Dish 500 can be Dish Pro. Can you tell us exactly what you are running. What exactly does it say on the check switch screen, what switch(s) do you have and also what set top boxe(s) are you using? Sometimes the best rule of thump is to unplug everything (power and cables) for about 10 mins and then reconnect everything. Then run a checkswitch and see what the results are.

There is also the possibility that the dish wasn't properly installed and the storm blew it out of alignment. But, Browniegirl, if you could provide some details about your set-up some one here may be able to help!

[edit]
Just so you are aware, the terms can be confusing. Many of us here just use them forgetting that many new members don't know the subtleties :)

DishPro or Legacy refers to the switch and/or LNB (the part that looks back at the dish on the end of the arm). Some times the switch is built in to the LNB in units called "Twin" or "Quad" LNBs. Be aware that a "Dual" LNB and a "Twin" LNB are not the same thing!

Dish 500 refers to the dish itself (the parabic reflector only).

Twin LNB is two dual LNBs with a built-in switch allowing two satellite positions to be seen by a single devise.
Dual LNB is a devise that has two outputs for the same single satellite location.

If you are interested, here is a glossary of terms

The Model Id is Dish 322. It's showing message # 015. When I did the check switch it says this.....

Port 1 DPP- Twin Good Connection..No Signal
Port 2 DPP- Twin Good Connection..No Signal
Port 3- External LNB -NC No Connection

Hope that helps ya'll...I'm not smart like ya'll are...LOL. If there's anything else for me to check just tell me and you MIGHT have to tell me how to check it too..hehehe.

Hehehe Tony...You are so right about me not understanding the technical terms...LOL. I'm getting ready to call them back and see if they can fix this before Sunday because my son is giving me a headache. I'm about ready to tell them to come and get it!!!..LOL.

I'll bet if you had called a local dealer instead of a 800 number that dealer could help you faster!!! I also bet if you are willing to pay a local dealer can get there before DISH and solve your problem.:) :) :)

Well with that result on the check switch it is reading the LNB. So it knows what lnb you have, so all your connections are good. 1 of 2 things has happened. Either the dish was blown out of alignment or the twin has gone bad. I think it was probably the first one.

Looks like you need a tech.

Thanks all.......I just wanted to make sure there was nothing that I could do,although I probably couldn't have done it anyway...LOL. My brother has someone coming to look at it Tuesday and if they can't fix it, Dish Network will be here Thursday. Thanks everyone!!!!:) :)

This brings up a good question. Is a week, or even four or five days acceptable to wait for service? With many or most cable companies usually coming out within a day now, I would hope that Dish or Direct would have a way to get a system up and working quickly.

Yeah, I can't believe that I have to wait that long. I'm used to cable and they would come right out. I sure hope they get a better system going or they will probably lose a lot of customers. Maybe they would have sped it up if I told them to keep my son until they get it fixed....LOL. Good thing I have lots of movies...hehehe.

New install ?'s

Why is DISH's Payperview HD so bad?
