I've been thinking about buying a capture card and use my PC as a DVR. My receiver is a vip22k.
The only trouble i see with this is when the receiver does a time out (when it's received no activity) and goes to the black screen with the dish logo bouncing around. Is there anyway around that or has anyone tried something similar?

If i set my PC to record something in two days in advanced i'm guessing all it would record is the dish logo bouncing around.

Disable the inactivity timer AND set an auto-tune timer to fire 30 minutes to one hour after the nightly guide download/update.

Exactly! I use my PC as a DVR (MythTV and other software). Timers work well. Also an "IR Blaster" can simulate keypresses on a remote to wake the receiver up if it falls asleep. I have tons of content archived, works great!

Why is there nothing on Dish's new internet offering?
