DISH Selects TiVo Metadata

Then apparently you missed all the Hitchcock movies the past few nights. HITCHCOCK!!!

Look again at tonight thru Sunday night:
Johnny Angel lists NONE.
Crack-Up - NONE
Key Largo lists ONE cast member. It's not even Bogart!
Brigadoon - NONE (who cares who directed it compared to the cast)
Take Me Out to the Ball Game - NONE
The Three Musketeers - NONE
Anchors Aweigh - One listed, it's not Sinatra
Singin' in the Rain - NONE
Inherit the Wind - NONE
On the Town - NONE
It's Always Fair Weather - Gene Kelly, nobody else
Cover Girl - NONE
The Locket - NONE
Holiday Affair - NONE
His Kind of Woman - NONE
Angel Face - NONE
The Story of GI Joe - NONE
The Night of the Hunter - NONE

15 out of the next 29 movies have NO cast members listed.
That's a majority.

Game, Set, Match. Nuff said.

Every single one of those has the actors on my guide. NOW nuff said. Did you think I just post made up stuff? Maybe you have a Hopper issue but it isn't an overall guide issue.

Here's one. The movie is listed as "NEW · First Aired 8/4/17" (it's been on many channels a billion times) and described as the 1954 TV adaptation of the Ian Flemming book, and not the fantastic first version 1967 parody of Casino Royale, when it's actually the 2006 movie with Daniel Craig. That's not Barry Nelson in the inset pic. And the Cast panel said "No Information Available".

Yeah, it's also listed this afternoon on Vice 121 at 5pm CDT, but for only an hour, and then again at 6pm, but for two hrs. Go figure...
At least it doesn't say NEW, and the First-Aired date agrees it was 1954.

Keep in mind first aired is for the channel/network it is on not anywhere else it has been shown often for movies. At least as it has been with VIP.
No mention of first aired on my VIP guide.

My problem is with ALL the OLD shows showing up NEW. May really be time to SWITCH!!
Switch to what exactly? Who isn't using Tivo/Rovi? On DirecTV, the guide data has recently started changing as well. For instance. The first 3 episodes of this season of Game of Thrones have different metadata than the 4th. The titles have changed from "S7 | E1 Dragonstone" to "The Spoils of War". Other shows have changed similarly.

Comcast just went to Gracenote. So they are not using Rovi/Tivo.

It may be because we record different shows but that problem was a Gracenote problem for me that I have posted about before. And now with Rovi I'm not having that problem. (It was with Cops, Pawn Stars, and a couple of others)
You are going to be very limited and have to hope the one or two cable companies that use Gracenote are in your area. For me even if I still had that problem it wouldn't even be on my list to make me switch because it's one of the "Grass is always Greener" problems.

Yes to the titles have changed on my shows also. Part of my problem maybe i dont have a hopper. Still using VIP 722 and 211. the guide does not look the same but probably are getting the same information.

Switching ...maybe to Vyve Broadband the local cable i get my internet from. Could save a lot of money with their bundle. Vyve uses Comcast for their broadband so maybe the cable come from them also.

Thanks for all the history, never knew Rovi was Macrovision, the one who did all the encryption for VHS recordings. Anyways, you said the H3 had 2 UI's. I always thought the H3 shipped with the Carbon UI from the beginning since I have had the H3 since February 7, 2016 which was days after it was available as I was on that DIRT contact list before it was available and it always seems like it was only one UI. I thought it was the Hopper 1/H2K and the Hopper 2/HWS that had two UI with the current one being the carbon UI.
My stupidity, I mean H2 and HWS. Sorry for the confusion, but H3 has been in my mind a lot lately.

Isn't Comcast their only major customer now? Might not bode well for Gracenote being around in a couple of years.
Yes, according to the Rovi press release. I've always had the feeling that Gracenote (now under Nielsen) somehow pulled a "now we want more money for our metadata because we have enhanced it to do other wonders" perhaps even during contract. A press release some months ago from Gracenote just gushed with all the new and innovative things there newly enhanced metadata and services could do and across platforms and . . . I didn't understand it all, but it sure sounded like Gracenote felt their services would be worth a lot more than what they had been selling for in the past, and a new Sheriff was in town. I believe Gracenote allows for a period of several weeks after end of contract to allow the change to a different provider (confirmed in the case of TiVo leaving Gracenote metadata), or maybe MVPD's/users put that in, but it prevents an MVPD from have absolutely no data on the EPG if the MVPD decides to change services. I wonder if someone at Gracenote lost their job due to this fiasco of having only ONE of the major MVPD's due to a false business strategy? Gracenote certainly had Dish and DirecTV among others of the biggest and now they have only ONE biggie, a big net LOSS of the biggest customers. Bottom line: it looks like Gracenote blew it.

What is strange and to your point is that I think Gracenote (Tribune) had MOST of the biggest MVPD's, and as of Today ALL the BIGGGEST MVPD's, except Comcast, now use Rovi/Tivo. AFAIK, Comcast was using Rovi/TiVo, but then very recently switched to Gracenote. It makes me think Gracenote did something to LOSE all those big customers it once had. If that was the case for Dish, and I think it is, as bad as the metadata is, we all may have had an additional dollar or two added to our monthly bills if Dish had stayed with Gracenote. In the old days, Charlie would just tell us all if a supplier wanted too much money or if it demanded more money before the contract was up for renewal. I could have a better sense of understanding and even support the change to TiVo metadata if I were given an idea of why the sudden change. I'll just say that Scott has posted a few times that this change to TiVo metadata was something Dish had not planned, so it has to make one wonder.
