I just moved from VOOM to DISH and the HD Receiver.

I have NO Program Guide on the Digital Channels.

Guide says : "LOCAL DIGITAL".

I have the smaller 500 E* Dish installed.

I was told by some members of this forum that IF I have the
SUPER DISH installed the Program Guide will be "PIPED" over from
the LOCAL Analog channels.

The local tech called me to say that the addition of the Super Dish
WILL NOT produce the Program Guide on the HD OFF AIR CHANNELS!

I need to know if anyone out there is getting a GUIDE on their OTA
stations.

I am being told that "LOCAL DIGITAL" is all I can expect.

If this is the case, I was spoiled by VOOM!

Thanks !

Do you have an 811, 921 or 942 receiver? With the 921 and 942 you have to subscribe to your locals package in order to receive the Guide info for you digital OTA stations. That also means paying extra to get it and they are not available in all DMA's. With an 811 that is not the case.

I have the 811 receiver.
Does that mean the program guide is NOT a function?
This is a bummer without the program guide!

Dish's implimentation of local channel program info is really pretty awful. It basically remaps its analog channel info to the digital channels listed on your guide. That is why it's very rare to see any infor for sub-channels.

This major shortcoming could be corrected by sourcing their info from a more reliable and detailed source. Or, they could use the PSIP data stream. Or, a combination of both.

Believe it or not, it used to be worse. Up until recently, you had to subscribe to Dish Locals, and set the guide to display both Dish Locals and OTA Digital locals side by side, so you could see what was on the digital locals. You still didn't know what was on the sub-channels, and you couldn't set OTA timers based on programming, either, only manually by time.

Hi Gary,

I guess I am still "NOT GETTING IT" ..

Can I get the Analogs to MAP over to the digitals or not?

Is there anyway to see any info besides "LOCAL DIGITAL CHANNEL" ?

I have DISH coming on Friday to replace my 500 dish with the
SuperDish to see if the analog channels will MAP over.

I have a local DISH TECH telling me this will be a waste of time
as there is NO WAY to map the analog channels over.

Thanks

Chris

The superdish should solve it like we talked about earlier ;)

I don't know why the tech you talked to didn't get it.

Just wait and see on friday :)

The 811 has a problem with PSIP and locals. I get OTA guide data for 3 of the 8 local digital stations here (on the primary channel, not any subchannels). All the others say LOCAL DIGITAL like yours.

I have Dish Locals, and I display them next to each other like Gary said. The guide data for the Dish Locals is good for all stations.
