DISH TV or DISH Network?

Digital Information Sky Highway.

Yeah, back when the receivers had an expansion port for services which never materialized... Back when the manual pointed out that they used the international DVB standard for compatibility with other equipment...

Speaking of receivers, it is being reported that on 1/16/18 the 722, 622 & 612 will no longer be available for new or existing customers.

Looks like the beginning of the end, get them while you can.

How many MPEG-2 receiver models are still out there?

I'm sure we'll find out more details on the 16th. My guess is they will continue to support those receivers for customers who have them, for now. New and existing customers who currently do not have 1 of the receivers mentioned will not be able to get 1 starting on that date.

What about existing customers who already have one, but it is currently deactivated? Will Dish still reactivate it after that date, or would it need to be reactivated before then if you want to get grandfathered?

Possibly six that I know of: 311, 322, 512, 522, 625, and there is also a "311k" (a 322 with the TV2 output disabled, similar to the way old 522's were turned into 512's)

Do you know the tune to "Taps?"

Activate, or discard. Selling enters into ethical questions.

Okay. I recently reactivated a ViP222k because of a rumor in another thread that they are about to be discontinued. Now that we have a firm cut-off date for the ViP612, I guess I can reactivate it some time before that date. ViP211k's are still not on the chopping block yet, correct?

I believe that's what there creating the "Hopper Lite" for. It's supposed to do what the ViP211 series does but have the new interface and faster speed to handle it. Dish just want to force the CUI on everyone.(although I can see it being a helping factor for tech support)

I burned the bridge to the Digital Information Sky Highway to my House.
And that is why satellite is slipping.
My brother in law lives in the poorest county in his state and lives on a dirt road with few homes

The fiber optic line is coming down his road next year.

It's like grains of sand slowly slipping away.
