I shortened the power cable on a 301 receiver and the receiver powers on and then goes off. Is it not possible to shorten the power cord?

I realize that is an elementary question, but I thought I'd ask. Thanks.

Why would you shorten the cord?

Yes, it is possible to shorten the power cord, assuming you did everything correctly. Did you keep all the wires connected as before? Did you change out the plug or the whole cable? Did you take off the lid to do this, or were you just manipulating the cord?

Did you make sure you did not reverse the hot and the neutral wires?
Since they use a polarized plug, this could make a difference.
