I just found out about dishpointer today for my droid. Look like a great app. When the sattelites are found in the sky how do I know what salltelites to use for my direct tv. Just a little or maybe a lot confused ED

If you have only sd and not hd, then you need to see 101. If your local channels are on 119, then you need to see it, also. To get hd, you need to see the 99 and 103 satellite, too.

It is a great site, but when I decided to go with D* about a year ago, I went out onto my deck with my trusty $10 compass and found 212 degrees ( or was it 208? Can't remember now) at a 46.6 elevation, and I saw beautiful blue sky and no obstructions.

When the install tech came out about a week later, I told him exactly where to set up the Dish. My trusty $10 compass had been spot on. :)

A compass, level, and protractor may be all you need. When the viewing window is small, it's nice to have a little help!
