Yes I would think that they would steal the ideas. They have taken many of our ideas on this board and tweaked them to use as their own.

It is kind of corny and dumb, but since their name is "Dish" why not do a "Diner" type ad with the pacakges, like they are "serving up the best in programming."
Many years ago, ExpressVu did something similar to this it was kind of neat, but corny.

That actually would work well with the here's the dish tagline.

I have suggested in the past that Dish capitolize on the name Dish and have also suggested a diner theme in the past (hey their current red color would go great with a Diner theme!)

Calling All Marketing Firms!!! Hire Bob ASAP!!! What you put together Bob is simple, straight to the point, and most of all makes sense!!! Although it is quirky with the themes it sticks. That is where Dish continues to go wrong. What the braintrust at dish does not realize is they need to keep their ad's simple and to the point. The way it stands right now with all the packages they have as a new customer I would be confused as hell on what to get... CC

Dish is sitting on a gold mine of Marketing with the name dish.

What dish needs to do is rename the packages.

I would go back to the old way, It worked well.

America's Top 100, Now includes HD!
America's Top 200, Now includes HD!
America's Top 250, Now includes HD!
America's Everything W/ Playboy! Now includes HD! (everything is everything minus PPV)

This package would be a new package.

The Uplink package (Every channel including all PPV's) at like 350 per month or something like that. If its uplinked you get it! Minus retailer and ECC channels. I would throw a few of the orbital engineering channels in there cause that would be cool. If you were an employee of dish you would get this package with the retailer and ECC channels.

Next, I would...

Then Get rid of the only HD packages and the extra charge for HD, and grandfather those who have them into an AT package at the same price for a year. Give em the new channels and a few pay per view coupons as a thank you. I would then get rid of the per DVR fee, and charge 9.99 per month Flat fee whole house DVR. On the flip side, to recover some of those costs, I would raise the extra box fee by a buck. It would be cheaper in the end on the consumer. It would look better and cheaper on their bills, as well as now that the fee is being recovered from a larger pot, it would even out in the long run.

A typical Bill would look like this

America's Everything package in HD W/ Playboy and Locals 103.99
Whole House DVR 9.99
Rxxxxxx Sxxxxxxx Free 1st reciver 0.00
Rxxxxxx Sxxxxxxx "Location goes here" 5.99

Total 119.97 Plus tax

This would drive the cheaper alternative as well as the the only hd package that dish is going for. It would simplify things. Before dish knew it they would be on top and number one. Also, I would back this up with the programming packages, by adding RSN's in HD and begin a western arch MPEG 2 Phase out, package by package. Call it band with reclamation. I would charge a 25 dollar box swap out fee to swap out older mpeg 2 boxes with 211's or something like that. If they want to upgrade to a DVR they can add the hard drive and pay the dvr fee. Enabling would be free.

Is'nt it $40 dollars a month for this package? ANd your using a trade marked logo no?

If you read the bottom of the post you would have seen that its not real advertising only examples. Also the package is 19.99 right now for 6 months, and its going up to 24.99 a month with the new promotions, for how long I dont know the details. While I am using a trademarked logo, I have given credit to the trade mark and who it's from. It's only being used as an example. Also, you can use the logo within fair use :)

As long as they don't run it at night with REALLY loud sound, I'm okay with it. I always wondered why they advertise to me, when I already have Dish

But some of us like paying less dollars per month for the all-HD packages. This adds up to quite a few dollars over time. Why force us out of those packages? What did we do to you? :) And if I recall you're not even a E* customer any longer, right? Seriously, forcing us out of the all-HD packages will force some of us over to D* just because of the badwill associated with tossing us out. A few pay-per-view coupons for movies we've already probably seen aren't going to heal the wound.

Makes you wonder, huh ?? Dish just can't understand, they run ads on channel "x", a really, really popular channel, but get no response, i.e. new customers, from it.... Duh, we're already customers. They'd never get the cablecos to insert their ads meaning they have to go directly to the networks, which means higher $$$ rates. And there's an idea: When they negotiate a carriage agreement with a network, add in (1) free Dish Network ad per hour or two hours or whatever. That way, ALL viewers of the channel, including those watching via cable, FIOS, U-Verse, and so on see it.

Its not that I would be forcing you out. Your moving up to what the respectable package would be at the same price. For a year at that fact.

For example,

if you look at the regular price of turbo HD gold, 49.99. The channels in that package compare to the Classic Gold of 57.99, Its an increase of 8 bucks. Directvs package is the Total Choice Xtra + HD. Their Package pricing is 60.99 plus a 10 hd access fee. for a total of 70.00 a month right off the bat.. Under my plan there is no HD access.

So under my plan you would only go up 7 bucks but not pay the hd access fee. So in the end you would save a couple of bucks or even out from what your paying now, and you gain programming.

You pay for your basic programming package, wich includes HD. If you have a dvr you pay for the dvrs on one flat monthly fee.

NO HD access, No Per dvr charges,

If it stayed this simple, you would be crazy to go to DirecTV. This price diffrence alone would drive subs from D* and Cable to E*. It would work very well with my effective adversting. :) I could earn charlie so much money right now he would be crazy not to hire me!

oops, forgot the partial quote...

"If it stayed this simple, you would be crazy to go to DirecTV"

unless you like watching stuff like college tabletennis. Or competative tiddlywinks.

:up Nice ads.

My only critique is that there ARE strings attached, so some of those wouldn't fly as is. Those strings are called the contract you have to sign to get the deal. You might want to rethink that one.

I saw an ad on channel 101 the other day that was great - but the only problem is that I've never seen it anywhere that a non-customer could see it and I've only seen it 1 time. It said something about why pay more for the exact same channels/programming? It also mentioned the hardware/technology is much better than DirecTV.

They occasionally get a good idea through, but never market it to the right audience. Maybe they'll hire you and you can help them get out to the right people.
