4 weeks ago an All American, (Distant Networks Service), rep (in the USA), told me they would be offering the networks in HD in early 2009. I e-mailed Dish several times to see if this was true and when it would start and from the poor grammar and lack of understanding my question, assume they were in India. I asked for a customer retention specialist and they knew what I was talking about but would not give me an answer. They said Dish would not know and to contact All American. I then went the CEO email route and asked when they were going to lease more transponder space to AA so they could do his and got the same bull back. "Contact AA". But that is where I started.

Any one got any idea if AA will offer HD in the near future? If they don't, I'm headed for Direct.

I just spoke to AAD yesterday to update my billing info, and they informed me that the HD channels of Atlanta/San Francisco would be available in the 1st quarter of 2009, no later than the end of March. Thats pretty much what I think others have been reporting.

Funny they told me months ago that they would have hd distants by the end of THIS year. Yeah, it sounds to me that they are stringing us along- quarter by quarter.

This part of reality needs to be addressed...

If AAD intends to distribute HD versions of their Atlanta and San Francisco channels, they must rent more than the one transponder they currently lease from SATS.

I cannot imaging AAD renting only one transponder and then cramming eight HD channels on it.

That may be possible if they trade TP 15 on E7 for one on E11. However, if the went MPEG4 HD, as required, many with MPEG2 receivers would be in the dark. How many AAD customers are there? Could they get them all MPEG4 boxes?

Maybe Dish could just go with ATL networks, and launch 4 HD and 4 SD, if they could do that mix on a TP.

I just hope they do not give up more space to add HD distant nets.

What about Charlie splitting...

the country in 2.

That, unless I'm missing something, seems to be the biggest problem. Eastern arc is 61.5,72.7 and 77...western arc is what...a 129 hd sat falling out of the sky, hopefully to be replaced SOON by one that doesn't, and what other sats? What becomes of the 110 and 119. AAD is currently on the 119...if they can switch those 8 channels to mpeg4 HD on 1 sat it might work, be cost effective. If they have to play along with Charlie and have east and west arcs (ha,ha,ha) it won't. However, I'm sure those of us that depend on these signals won't fuss about having a wing dish if need be. I also don't think subscribers will beef about having to upgrade their receivers to mpeg4 it they have to in order to receive these channels.
