Does a replacement 722 equal a new contract extension?

After dealing with loss of 200 hrs of programming on a 722 and the inability to connect to the internet and speaking with tech support, they feel I should have my box replaced.

Will getting a replacement box require a new contract(i'm currently out of contract).

I'm still unsure if I'l tay with DIsh or not and don't want to be locked in.

Thanks,

Todd

NO. I've had a couple of replacements in the 12 years I've been with them and never had a contract requirement. Just to be on the safe side, ask 'em and record your conversation or do the chat thing and print it.

No commitment for replacement. That's a trick DirecTv has been playing lately.

I replaced five failing 612's in a row and there was never a contract extension.

There was one, however, when I convinced them to stop sending out 612's and give me a free upgrade to a 622. They agreed to do it, but then said that their system wouldn't allow the swap since I also have a 625, it kept trying to replace that instead (dual tuner for dual tuner). and so, (they said) the only way to do the free upgrade was to enter it as a new HD upgrade from scratch.

The good news is that my bill stayed the same, they also threw in the HBO and Showtime deal for 3 months and I now have a box that has worked for two weeks without any reboots (and on top of that, the tech. didn't have any 622s on the truck, so I got a 722 instead).

The bad news was a new contract (not so bad, since my old one was only five months old).
