does a VIP211k need smart card

I just bought a new VIP211k HD reciever from Dish Store. I just got it and opened box, there is a label with R and S numbers for the box but there is no smart card in the slot. Does this receiver need a smart card? or can I just go ahead and install with no card in slot? thanks for any help

If it needs one,dish will know and will send you one
otherwise don't sweat it

smart card is internal on new receivers, only ones with previous version of card will need new cards.
