If I want to buy a newer movie to watch (for about 4.99 or so), and I want to receive it from my DISH satellite on to my TV, do I also need an internet connection to the TV at all?

I want to avoid having to connect my TV to the internet. But, I still want to be able to buy newer movies to watch. Can I buy a new movie from DISH and watch it without internet?

Do they have TV shows like The Walking Dead to purchase as well? For like 1.99 an episode or 15 per season or anything?

Thank you!

What a nail in the coffin for getting Dish. The only reason I want Dish is so I don't have to connect internet to my TV. Bummer.

If i am going to connect internet to my TV, then I'll just get internet TV.

You don't have to have your receiver connected to the internet to rent regular pay per view movies. You do need it connected to do On Demand or to purchase shows or movies because they're all delivered over the internet.

What's the difference between a pay per view movie (no internet required) and an On Demand movie ?
Less titles or something?

Pay per view is delivered by satellite and On Demand is delivered by the internet. Dish has a lot of pay per view movies in the channel 500's that can be ordered over the phone or by text.

Just adding to this, some of the On Demand (that shows up in the guide on channel 1 or channel 501) is also delivered by satellite, and recorded to the DVR's hard drive overnight, so those movies are also available for rental without needing an internet connection. This (channel 1 / channel 501) would only work on a DVR with a built-in hard drive, such as the Hopper Duo, not on a receiver without an internal hard drive like a Wally.

Thanks. I forgot about channel 1/501 and as you said, only available with a built-in DVR. (Is channel 1/501 available on a 722 or a 922?)

I wish I had even a sliver of understanding of your logic. Alas, I don't!

Definitely on the 722, and I would assume on the 922 as well. Heck, the standard-def VOD still shows up on the 512. It has been awhile since I looked, but it used to be that some VOD titles would show up on the 512 that were not even available as VOD on the HD DVRs.

It shows up on my 722 and my leased 612's as well. I have no idea about the 922, but I expect it did. When the move/duplication to channel 1 happened, my account was illicitly charged for some porn nobody ever ordered. This caused me to set my account PPV to zero so that it wouldn't happen again. Trying to get Dish to reverse charges on a PPV is like pulling teeth.

One of my dogs ordered porn once. Setup the pin lockout immediately;)

Whenever we install a receiver that's connected to the internet or a phone line we strongly recommend that the customer set up a PIN and then we help them do it. If they don't take us up on the offer then they're on their own. :)

Several years back we had a customer who fell asleep on her remote and ordered a pricey boxing match. I'm pretty sure it really was an accident because she was about 80+ years old and couldn't care less about boxing. She tried, we tried, everybody tried but Dish would not reverse the charge.

Yeah, but it's much easier to set the PPV credit limit to $0. You also don't have to worry about entering the pin every time you land on a channel you locked out.

On a Hopper, Joey, Wally, etc. you set a PIN and turn on the 'Restrict Purchases' option in the Parental Controls. That way you're only prompted for a PIN when you want to buy something.
