Use S-Video plus Composite audio for best picture and sound that the 301 is capable of.

I'm thinking you'll have to do a channel scan, correct?

If your 311 is connected to a conventional TV antenna, you would need to run a scan with the 311 turned OFF to find local stations. If you don't have an antenna connected, don't bother scanning.

Should I just run A/V?

Yes, as vegassatellite points out, A/V will probably give you a better picture and sound. In this case, if you have an Over-The-Air antenna, you would need to connect that directly to the TV's antenna input.

So you know, if the picture looks bad, that's what happens with SD content on an HD TV.
