Hello, so yep I am a newbie here. Had DirecTv installed on Saturday 9/29/12, every night at roughly 7 pm the dreaded 771 comes up on my local channels and a few others like ESPN, but HBO, HGTV, and some others still are coming in fine. The weather has been clear here in NW Ohio every night except Tuesday night. This problem lasts until sometime in the morning like 9 or 10 am (don't know exactly because I have had to work). Install guy came out once, at 5pm when it was working fine and redid all of the ends of the lines with new connectors, changed the splitter box, but issue still remains. My beloved Irish are playing Saturday night and it feels like I am going to miss it. The guy is supposed to come out this morning, while my wife is home, to look at it; but I fear by 9 it will be working again. Any help please...

:welcome to Satelliteguys!

A couple of possibilities are a bad alignment or a bad bbc. Can you post your signal levels for all satellites? The bbc is the little pigtail connector at the back of the receiver/dvr. Not all setups use them.

Those signal strength numbers are really bad! Either the dish is way out of alignment or you may have a bad lnb, possibly a bad cable, too. Did the installer run all new cables?

No he did not, he put the dish up and ran new cable to a splitter which then split to the three receivers (1 HD/DVR, 2HD), when I had Directv 2 years ago, the dish pointed one way and he has this one pointing I would say 45 degrees differently... seemed odd to me...

The older Phase III dish pointed at the 110 satellite, the newer Slimline points at 101, which is further east. How many cables come from the dish into the house?

Neither is likely in an install that is only five days old. Pretty much all HD installations are using SWiM technology this year.

My bet is a faulty SWiM LNB assembly.

The solution should come from a call to the installer if they left their number or DIRECTV if they didn't.

Only 1 wire going into the house, to a 4 way splitter (only using 3 out of 4 outs)... Called Directv, they are sending installer back out tonight after 6... I am hoping now to be able to use some suggestions to guide the installer to getting it right... so I appreciate all of the help..

I'm sure there is a power inserter in the setup also, yes?

A smal box that plugs into the wall. The cable from the dish goes through it.

Can you describe the two boxes? Are there model numbers on them?

If it happen every day at about the same time -- sundown, then it is moisture problem in a loose outside connection.
Now it is lasting well into the middle of the night working fine... but by morning there is nothing... Install guy came out and moved the SWM to another room... and checked connections... issue was still there in the morning... he stated if it happened again he would replace all wires from the dish (including the LNB) and also maybe our boxes, so we would have a whole new setup... i am happy that i can watch primetime shows and football, but just want the thing fixed... He thought maybe there was Dish network at one time on the house and if so there would be a "diplexer" or something like that, I fealt like George Castanza when he said that though, could be causing interuption...
