Announcements this morning:

Netflix just signed Dreamworks contract for more content of first run movies.

Netflix also signed a deal with HBO to become HBO's output partner of HBO content, currently held by Time Warner, which expires in 2013.

Netflix strategy continues to form a close alliance with Facebook to achieve world wide dominance with social media and continues to build embedded applications on mobile devices and TV's.

Investors remain confused as some analysts down grade Netflix to a sell due recent strategy announcements of splitting the DVD and streaming business while others are upgrading to a buy rating. Netflix has recently lost 8% market cap because of it's business changes, but in the long haul, Netflix these moves will enable much larger growth worldwide as it continues to gain additional content for streaming.

Is HBO currently sreaming on netflix?

Not any more. They used to have some things available, like Deadwood and the first few seasons of the Sopranos, but HBO Go has replaced Netflix streaming.

Showtime also will pull their content at the end of September or October, I forget which.

OT- March 22: Showtime current shows were pulled from Netflix streaming because Showtime wanted to sell these individually, per episode. Older discontinued shows remained. Shows like Dexter are still available from Netflix Blu-Ray mail, however. For how long, I don't know. I hope at least until I get done with the series. I'm in the middle of season 4 now. Blockbuster doesn't have BluRay Dexter.

The problem with these is that age old story that Hollywood is running scared of streaming content and subscription pricing plans. They want the much more profitable rent per episode which is contrary to Netflix business model. There is a lot of competition out there selling per episode on the net and they are worried that Netfix will ruin their hugely profitable business.

My long range prediction is that Netflix will end up having two sets of selections in their streaming library. Those that are in the monthly billed selection and those that are available only by Pay per view or rental for 24 hours plan. This would be the solution should Hollywood be strong enough to hold the content licenses hostage.
