Dual OTA Adapter Support for Smaller Subnets

Hey folks,
I'm thinking about switching from Cable (boo!) to Dish Network and I'm also interested in getting the dual OTA adapter for recording some of the networks that aren't uplinked to Dish. (MeTV, RetroTV, Comet, ThisTV, and a few others.)

Since some of these stations are Low Power TV stations, they don't transmit their guide, does the Dish OTA Guide provide info for these diginet/subnet networks?

Not usually... Most sub-channels have no data although a few do. Just to be clear, you do need an antenna to use the OTA tuner... Some folks have not known that and thought the signal would magically appear without one.

It really is hit or miss, depending on your market. Here in Charlotte, I actually get guide data for most (not all) of my OTA subchannels.

If you want to post where you are, or at least which market's locals you expect to receive, maybe we have another member in your area that can let you know what they receive in the way of guide data!

It doesn't matter if they do or don't transmit guide information over the air, the Dish receiver does not process/use it anyway. You only get guide info if it is transmitted via the satellite system.

Do people really think you'll plug in the OTA adapter without an antenna and pick up channels?

I don’t live in your DMA, I’m in the next one over, SF/Oak/SJ. I do receive guide data for Laff and MeTV. I don’t get the others so I can’t say for them.

A lot of reports on the tech portal from techs doing these OTA jobs that the CSR's are telling customers "it's just a box that attaches to the dish" and a lot of techs posting that customers are not happy about the extra cabling, etc.

People have basically forgotten what an antenna is. Some wonder if they still work. other think it just scam. though I am not sure I understand that misconception.

What channels are those and I’ll look to see if I get the guide info for them. I’m in Modesto and have OTA hooked up. I looked and I do get the guide data for ME-TV on Ch 03-02 but not sure what channels the others are.

Funny here in OR, Laff is on Dish, and we get it OTA too. The guide is on Dish for Laff, but not OTA as well as Estrella.. We have OTA guides for METV, Get TV, Decades, Justice TV. But none for Cozi, Laff, Estrella, Comet, Stadium. So we have several that do not have OTA guides.
