My remote control is losing sensitivity. I have no way to determine if the problem is in the remote or its receiver in the DVR. I have tried three sets of batteries. I also checked the batteries in a battery tester and all are well into the green. Moving closer to the DVR doesn't seem to make any difference.

A simple way to test the remote output is to view the intensity or reliability of the emitted IR signal.

Use any digital camera to view the IR signal. Aim the remote at the camera lens and while watching the viewfinder, press the suspect remote buttons.

Does the remote provide consistent commands. How the the IR brightness compare to other IR remotes?

I found that the remote would work solid every time to switch from standby to on, but would not reliably turn the unit off. I could use the front panel switch to go back to standby and the remote would turn it on again from anywhere in the room. I took the batteries out of the remote last night, then this morning got the bright idea to shut the DVR down for a time by the rear panel switch so that some re-boot might occur. I haven't spent any time with it yet but it seems to be working. I'll keep you posted, if any buttons do not work I'll try the intensity test.

I now think the problem I experienced was a corrupted program somehow caused by my trying to set the time. Maybe I pushed buttons that shouldn't have been pushed for the screen I had displayed or pushed two buttons at once, or whatever. The processor has to sequentially look at things so I suspect that is why the remote would reliably turn the DVR on from standby, the processor wasn't busy. But after turned on whatever situation I had caused got the processor into some sort of loop that wasn't checking the IR receiver as I was pushing the remote button except on occasion. Any computer experts out there will realize immediately that I am out of my element on explaining this, but the short answer is if things don't work as they are supposed to do a reboot by turning off the power on the rear panel and back on after a few minutes of rest. I find no problem with remote operation after the reboot.
