According to Mashable, the publisher responsible for the ultra-popular iPhone app "Angry Birds," Chillingo, has been acquired by EA for $ 20 million in cash. Since its App Store debut in Dec 2009, "Angry Birds" has dominated mobile app sales rankings. Nearly 7 million copies have sold at 99 cents each, claims developer Rovio. A $ 4.99 high-definition version was just lately released for iPad, and an Android version had been released in September.

The "Angry Birds" app had been developed by a Finland-based company which just came out and said that although EA bought the founder Chillingo, which developed "Angry Birds," Rovio will be able to continue to control the franchise. Reuters spoke with EA spokeswoman Holly Rockwood. She said that EA Mobile's sector leading presence on the iPhone platform is what EA was working toward when purchasing Chillingo, which makes it so EA Mobile still could be the best app company in the whole world.

Nobody knows if this has any relation to Chillingo's scheme of offering "Angry Birds" on the Android for free or not.
