I have a SWM 3 LNB with power inserter. I have an HR23 DVR HD receiver which obviously has two tuners. This is the only receiver I have/need.

Question: Can I run the single wire from the power inserter straight to the HR23 receiver? Or, do I need to go to a splitter with terminators on the stubs I'm not using?

Thanks!

Direct will say you have to have the splitter. But it will work just fine without it. You just wont have the option of adding any more recievers without the splitter.

Yep I know of atleast 2 systems running this way.

Cool,
I was told the other day that if it was a SWM it HAD to use the inverter to work properly and was needed with a single recvr as well.

I guess if you've been running it that way successfully, then that is information that needs to be changed ...

Don't you mean inserter? It does need that, maybe not the splitter. I would be cautious about not using it the way Directv says to. There was a post about someone not using the power inserter and it still worked, using the receiver's power. The problem is that the voltage isn't high enough from the receiver and you will burn out it's power supply.

You need to use the power inserter. You can live without the splitter.

I have seen a receiver work without the inserter, but I don't know how long it would last as it is not desigend to put out the power that then LNB requires.
