Another part of the new user experience is a new remote control for the Hopper with Sling home media gateway. In addition to having buttons, there’s a track pad and speech recognition. Touch and speech have become part of the autonomic nervous system of smartphone users, and DISH acknowledges that reality. The speech recognition is from Rovi’s Veveo subsidiary, with a back-end from Nuance.

Still, a very interesting concept.
And it WILL come to the streaming services--Netflix included--in a day sooner than we think now that Hollywood knows the gold at the end of that rainbow. Netflix will have no choice with the mega-bucks Hollywood will demand.

Ergen has been talking about how he and the content providers including the major broadcasters can make money on the new advertising model from websites, etc. This seems like things are getting closer to that.

IMHO, Echostar AirTV is something more of a way to mirror a stream from a MVPD STB to any device in the home. The key, I think is that it will MIRROR, not provide a separate experience as a client does today. This sounds like what some were asking for so they can take whatever is playing on one STB/Client and MIRROR it to wherever they want, pretty much. Echostar will probably want to license the tech to any MVPD or others who want the technology for their services, including, perhaps, Dish.
