EchoStar / Dish’s Path Forward

Dish Network since 97 here. When Spectrum fiber came to our home, 6 or so years ago, we gladly left our 20 year DSL Internet service for that. The Spectrum salesman sold me on trying Spectrum TV, to get "free" installation. He said the cost of TV for one month was the same as the price of the install without TV. He said if you don't like the TV you can cancel it after a month with no extra charge. So the tech comes and installs our new fiber to the modem service and hands me a Roku and tells me to go create a Roku account while he does the fiber install. I say what is the Roku for, he says for Spectrum TV on the Spectrum app. Well the missus tried it for a few minutes and said forget it I'm not using it I can't stand a remote with no numbers on it. I want to keep my dish remote. She will not even consider using the Roku remote. So when I called to cancel the Spectrum TV after one month, they told me they could cancel it for me however I would lose my one year of discounted service pricing on the fiber internet unless I keep the TV for a year also. I asked if there was any way not to lose the discount if I cancel TV. They said I could take Spectrum Mobile service for a year and I could keep my discount. So I lost my discount. Nice way to start with a new company's service huh? The Spectrum Fiber is the bees knees. It is fast and more reliable than our electricity service. We are the last house on the electrical loop in the sticks so if there's a break anywhere upstream of here the power is out. I start the generator and sure as shootin' the Spectrum Internet is working. And no she's still not willing to consider leaving Dish.

cable providers are already loosing there asses to streaming starlink and fiber!!!! it's dated tech.. why do you think they got into mobile and home security 🤔... it's about time the monopolies got broke up!!!
The cable companies are losing the battle when it comes to fiber bring offered. Not only is the method of delivery better, but when people realize what difference upload speed makes its a no brainer to switch. Not to mention the pricing is very competitive.

Starlink if having no impact on Cable or Fiber customers. The only providers this is causing an issue with is Hughesnet, Viasat and some Cellular service providers who either charge for data or do not have the download speeds.

The reason for the cable company (Comcast Specifically) offering home security was to be able to offer a product to make up for people not taking home phones. They wanted to be able to offer triple and quad play packages to their TV and internet customers.

The home security systems just never caught on. The people who bought it, like myself, bought it because of a promotion and bring cheaper than a double play. I ended up dropping it due to the out dated technology, it was very clunky and I hated the home security router which was only rated to 100 megs. The tech who installed my home security really expected me to hook my home network behind the 100 meg netgear home security router. There was no way I was running my home network behind 3 routers Xfinity Gig Router ---> Home Security 100 Meg Router ---> Home Eero Gig Mesh Network. It was bad enough going through 2 routers, as I didn't think you could put the Xfinity router in bridge mode.

The last straw for me was really the crappy cameras, where as I could get a google home camera for less money better picture quality and the app was so much more better and polished off.

As far as mobile, this was mostly to replace the loss of home phone sales, but also to keep internet customers. Offer a great price for cell phone service, and make a requirement for that great rate that you have to subscribe to internet.

I actually cancelled my Xfinity cell phone account, cheaper yes! However the savings was not worth having absolutely no support from the local store, as every time I went to the store, unless I was buying a new phone from them they employees shoved me off to the 800 Xfinity number which you had no choice but to speak to the Philippines and they made you use their stupid app for just about everything from resetting a pin number to changing out a SIM.

I have had Dish for about eight years when I switched from Directv to Dish. I could most likely do with streaming, Cox internet and my OTA antenna. But my wife would not due to she is technology challenged and is used to how the Dish remote works. I even setup up a Table last year and she will not use. I have to do all of the remote control work with it.
