So its now for all intents and purposes..august...and we were told that the TR50 would be for sale in July? Where did it go? Was it vaporware or are they backpedaling on the "free no subscription fee" model? GHAAAAA!

frustrated...

Dan.

We are writing to inform you of the cancellation of the TV converter box
you had ordered: EchoStar DTVPal Digital to Analog TV Converter
(Provantage#: NTIA005).

Unfortunately, this product will not be available for sale as the
manufacturer will not be releasing it as planned. A new DTVPal product
from EchoStar has been released which will replace the unreleased model.
PROVANTAGE will not be carrying the new DTVPal product. Also, we have
chosen not to participate in the NTIA TV Converter Box program moving
forward because we feel this program will prevent us from providing our
customers the quality service that is expected of us. Therefore, you
will need to purchase the new DTVPal product from another NTIA
authorized dealer.

At the NTIA's request, we are refunding your coupon amount(s) to them
directly and have provided your name as a PROVANTAGE customer. The NTIA
will contact you after they have verified your information. PROVANTAGE
has no control over the redistribution of coupons and any questions
about this program should be directed to the National Telecommunications
and Information Administration: 1-888-388-2009.

We apologize for the inconvenience and if we could have prevented this
issue from happening, we surely would have done so.

Thank You,

The release date was pushed back to September some time back. Google it if you want a link.

"Fall?"
But it did seem to be confirmed as coming in the Chat last night. They said "less than $300."

I'd preorder one now for $300. An OTA HD DVR with EPG? Yep, I'll buy one, test it, maybe buy one or two more.

It's coming.

November, now. I don't know about QAM. I would think it odd for a satco to sell a product supporting cablecos, but maybe Echostar wants to move in that direction.

You're right. Doesn't make much sense for them to include a QAM tuner unless their goal is to move as many units as possible as opposed to only supporting/supplementing needs of satellite TV users.

As I think about it more, maybe they want a QAM tuner built in. To provide more competition against Tivo.
