Sure, you can master something in 1920 from 1440. You can also master something into 1920 from 640. That doesn't mean it will look as good as something captured originally in 1920.

Every step of processing offers the opportunity to introduce problems.

But the bottom line is the same. We all would prefer every step of the way to be 1280x720 or 1920x1080. Or one day, 1920x1080 60p. Yes, I know, not in the ATSC tables. But it is technically feasible- couldn't BD could handle it, and even HD-DVD, for a 2 hour movie?
