Ergen: Retrans rules bigger threat to consumers than new set-top rules

Allowing re-trans fees was one of the biggest mistakes in television history. Cable/sat pricing has risen tremendously partly because of this (sports being the other major reason) and most of that money doesn't even go to the local station, but to it's corporate parent. Local programming is far worse now than it was back in the 80's even though far more money is pouring into those stations.

Get rid of re-trans fees and make locals "must carry".

Must carry, to maintain OTA... I like the sounds of it. Want to be paid, then give up OTA availability and become a full time pay channel that requires a subscription to ALL consumers.
