I have internet and phone with my local cable company (Brighthouse), but have TV with Dish. When I try to get ESPN 3 with my internet, I log into my account. It won't let me get ESPN 3 because it claims I don't have one of their tv packages. That stinks. Is anyone having the same problem? Can we get it thru Dish Network?

Sucks, don't it? A friend has D* for TV and cable broadband and is also unable to stream anything via espn3. The cable company won't let him stream it because he doesn't subscribe to their cable tv.

as tubkatt stated thats not a dishnet issue.Got to be your cable co or isp blocking it.ESPN3 works great here att phone, dsl, dishnetwork for tv

Your Internet provider has to have an affiliation agreement with ESPN in order to be able to get ESPN 3.com. I have Cox for internet and they have an agreement to deliver it.

Brighthouse/Time Warner Cable require you to have their internet and a cable package including ESPN in order to get access to ESPN3.

Weird, everything I've always read says that you have to have a cable package to access it. Here is the error message I receive when I try to access it from my RoadRunner account.

I have phone and Internet with Atlantic Broadband and I can access ESPN3 with no problems. I never even had to log in with it. Must know I'm a customer by my IP Address.

truth is ESPN3 is only for internet providers who actually Cable companies that that do Internet services, like Comcast, Time Warner, Cox, Cablevision, etc. the only way to get to get ESPN3 is be on a Internet provider that's a cable TV provider. and don't forget Disney is suing dish anyway so ESPN3 would never be accessed via Dish account for Dish Online anyway.

I live in a rural area. I get my internet through a small WISP. I have a forty foot tower to be able to get a internet signal to the tower that is 6 miles away. I think they buy their bandwidth from a cable co., because I can get ESPN3. The ESPN3 home page says powered by Grande Communications, even though that is not the name of my WISP. Where I live there is no cable, just D* and E*.

Best of both worlds. I have Comcast for internet and Dish for TV. Comcast gets me access to ESPN3 which I watch on my Dish 922 receiver streaming from my computer via PlayOn. So in a sense I do watch ESPN3 on my Dish network service...

There is nothing stopping Dish, that I know of, from negotiating the rights to provide access to ESPN3 to all of their subscribers, regardless of which internet providers they have. I believe the most recent ESPN3 negotiations with Cable/Internet providers only provide ESPN3 access to customers who subscribe to both Internet and a TV package that includes ESPN. Comcast currently provides ESPN3 to internet customers regardless of their TV subscription. I'm sure that will change when its time to renegotiation their ESPN3 contract.

I highly doubt ESPN3 is even on Dish's radar right now. However, if the standard to get ESPN3 becomes a qualifying TV and Internet package then it could benefit Dish to provide their subscribers access to ESPN3 (via login) to stay competitive with their Cable counterparts. Otherwise, if you want ESPN3 a cable company may be the only option.
