I wish I had low expectations to live up to. It looks alright, but it could look a lot better.

Even going to a standard 36mhz transponder for one signal, you're still compressing the signal. Uncompressed HD-SDI is at least 270Mbs (I can't remember if that's the spec for SD-SDI or HD-SDI).

The place I just left we couldn't handle that through out the entire network only in a short jump w/in the location. Then to send it to transmitter it had to be encoded (insert the word compressed here) and transmitted via the STL (studio transmitter link) and decoded. That must be why networks are looking at 10 Gb nets in the future.

Regardless of the whys, ESPN is borderline subpar much of the time; at least on Dish.

I think it would be like that across all providers since on Dish most of the pre-post game shows are very vibrant and sharp.

I caught some of the Meineke Bowl last night (Pitt v. NC) and I think the PQ was superb on my 46" Sony. Clearly the best I've seen on ESPN....

Well, having the opportunity to watch ESPN on Charter cable over the holidays at a relative's house, I have to say they have problems in general. It was never as bad as some of the stuff I have seen in the last few months on Dish and now Charter.

I would agree this game looked better than most on ESPN....for a change.

Espn switches between 110 and i think 72 on my receiver, every time I check it is a toss up to which one it will be, but I really don't notice a difference when it is one or the other.
