Euroleague Basketball Begins Its Sixth Season with the Largest Television Coverage In Its History

Hours after finishing the second week of its sixth season, Euroleague Basketball has confirmed that television contracts signed this year will bring more coverage of its teams than ever before into the homes of fans across Europe, the Americas, Africa and Asia. In Europe, the coverage has reached an all-time record of 23 countries, guaranteeing that every country with a participating team in the competition will have at least one television station broadcasting games in that region.

BARCELONA -- November 14, 2005 -- After agreements reached between Euroleague Basketball, international broadcaster RTL and the public television stations in Croatia (HRT), Slovenia (RTVS) and Serbia and Montenegro (RTS), the 13 different countries with teams participating in the Euroleague will now enjoy a basketball extravaganza across many different television stations. The distribution in each country is the following: Italy (Sky Sport), Spain (TVE, TVC and Teledeporte), Greece (Supersport), Turkey (Sky Turk), France (Sport+), Lithuania (Viasat and LRT), Israel (IBA-CH. 1), Germany (BR3), Russia (RTR Sports), Poland (Canal Plus), Croatia (HRT), Serbia and Montenegro (RTS), and Slovenia (RTVS) - with RTL broadcasting to several countries.

The assessment that Jordi Bertomeu, CEO of Euroleague Basketball, makes of the television coverage is truly positive: "During this first year of self-managing our commercial rights, we have been able to achieve the largest broadcast coverage in our history, which will certainly please our fans, while at the same time offering excellent promotional platforms for our sponsors."

Agreements in Croatia, Slovenia and Serbia and Montenegro

Over the past few days, Euroleague Basketball has closed important multiple-party deals with RTL television and the public stations in Croatia, Slovenia and Serbia and Montenegro. The agreement with RTL, which will begin to broadcast games in January of 2006, expires at the end of the 2006/07 season. The agreements with the aforementioned public stations will end at the conclusion of the current season (2005/06).

The Remaining Coverage in Europe

Many other European countries already enjoy coverage of the best European basketball club competition, including: Belarus (Viasat), Belgium (BETV), Estonia (Viasat), Denmark (Viasat), Latvia (Viasat), Norway (Viasat), Sweden (Viasat) and Ukraine (Megasports).

Outside of Europe, Euroleague Basketball games can be seen in various African countries via Canal+, in the United States and Canada on NBATV, Voom-Rainbow and the Israeli Channel, and in the Middle East on Al Jazeera.

Spectacular Deal with Eurosport

In addition to the agreements reached in the various countries, there is also the unprecedented deal for pan-European broadcasts made between Euroleague basketball and Eurosport. Through this agreement, Eurosport 2 will broadcast ULEB Cup games every Tuesday and Wednesday, and on Fridays at 19:00 CET will feature the "The Euroleague Basketball Show", 30 minutes of highlights and commentary from the past week's games. The program will air in 35 countries and in six different languages.

According to Andrea Bassani, Television Director at Euroleague Basketball, "the agreement with Eurosport is a golden opportunity for pan-European coverage of Euroleague Basketball and the ULEB Cup. This agreement means that for the first time in the history of European basketball, a pan-European television station will offer games and a magazine show featuring a club competition."
