I have to drill a hole into a upstairs bedroom so I can have that a dedicated line when I sign up for DIRECT. Anybody have guess on how long of a drill bit I need to go thru a ceiling and into a upstairs room's floor???

The floor joists are likely 10", plus the thickness of the floor and ceiling. I would get a 14" bit if I was you.

It's not just the thickness of the top plate he's drilling through.

You have to remember the space from the bottom to the top of the floor joist AND the thickness of the drywall of the ceiling, top plate, bottom plate sub floor, and the finished flooring.

I've done this, It's easier to drill from the top and the bottom. I figured out where my hole needed to be both upstairs and down stairs, drilled from upstairs and then from downstairs. Used standard drill bits to do this.

Used a fish tape to get the cables through both holes.
