I was reading over the review (btw great review guys!), and I wasn't clear on if you could edit channel names or not?

can you?

thanks

and do you still think this is the best for finding feeds with blind scan?

Yes you can edit the channel names. You can do it two ways
-through the edit channels on the receiver (select channel, hit edit and rename)
-use Channelmaster and upload the channel list to CM, edit it via your computer, then download the updated list back into the box.

Channel names can be editted on Classic NA , in the channel manager section. The classic NA is not the best, because it's not the fastest. It is a very competent receiver, though. Mine is not at all "flaky" and is very reliable.

I like my Fortec Lifetime Classic NA. I like that after I blind scan, it leaves the channel names unchanged. On my Neusat, if I Blind Scan, if I have renamed a channel, it renames it. I am thinking of switching back the the Fortec for my "main" receiver because of this.

For this newbie, could you explain what this means? Is "Channelmaster" a computer program? And CM? What cable do I need to hook my computer to my receiver? I also have the fortec lifetime classic.

Channel Master and CM are the same thing. It is a freeware channel editing program. Works with a varity of FTA receivers. You can use the cable that came
with your receiver to download and upload your channel list from Channel Master.
Sorry I don't have the link to the website for this program handy. But, do a Google search for : Channel Master and SharpC and you should be able to find it.

<blush> Sometimes I am just to lazy to look around.... thanks for the link!

As for a cable, my receiver did not come with one (I am thinking it was one of those extra's I wasn't smart enough to know I might want <blush>!).

I am presuming one can also update the receiver via the cable? I wouldn't know if there are newer versions of software (or would the proper term be firmware) which come out for the receivers or not. So far I have been very pleased with the workings of the fortec classic NA.

yes you can update the software and the channel list via a RS232 cable. Some take a null modem cable and some are a staright through cable. Fortecs I think take null modem. I'd have to look it up :)

Thanks Pete

I have a null modem adapter because the Coolsat is a straight cable but the Pansat is null modem. Guess the Fortec is also a null modem :)
