?? CCleaner has long been the go to product to help speed up your computer by getting rid of unwanted files, defragging, deleting unneeded and in some cases registry files that are causing problems. It's regularly updated and you don't have to pay anything to still get good use of it.

First, CCleaner doesn't defrag, their Defraggler program does. 2nd even with that, it's still only a fraction of what Glary does and what people should do to keep their computer going, along with the most important cleaning; the inside of the case and periodic replacement of thermal paste.

I'm using a computer I built 8 years ago and never updated any hardware and it's fast, smooth, problem free and I can play new games like Insurgency, Day of Infamy, et al as easily as old games like Enemy Territory

Is any of this stuff really necessary? Windows 10 with built in Windows Defenders seems to work great. They further enhanced it in the Fall Creator's Update.

Windows Defender is the only AV I use. Everything else is useless`, like Avast, Norton, McAfee, etc... just bloats your system

You've got that backwards, well mostly. Windows Defender is a middle-of-the-road weak sister. It might be better that McAfee (what isn't) but that's not saying much. Avast, on the other hand, is head and shoulders better. As a retired tech specialist with a computer background going back to 1979 I only install Avast. Bitdefender is sometimes rated a tad better but I find it too intrusive for my liking. Defender is only better than nothing at all.

Now I haven't used Avast inn some years and i'm also savvy enough to not open email attachments (Which I rarely get anyway) but I do "surf the web" in NSFW ways (Although most issues pop up when I'm trying to Stream a Bills game or d/l a movie from Yify and have never had an issue and the very rare few that tried to pop up, Defender took care of. I also run Malwarebytes Pro and Super Anti-Spyware remover monthly and all they find are tracking cookies

A lot of the old school PC maintenance type stuff, IMO is not needed these days. It's all voodoo mixed in with in with some placebo. Don't do stupid stuff, don't install crap you don't need, limit the amount of services you have loaded on startup and use the built in Windows Disk Clean Up tool to remove temp files and left over Windows Update files. Are registry cleaners really needed? The people that I know that use those things have more problems then you can imagine, probably from removing valid keys that are still in use. I know many many years ago there was a valid reason to keep the registry clean, which probably pre-dates me getting my first computer as 10 year old in the early 90s, but as someone who has never ran a reg cleaner, a system mechanic type application or any of that other nonsense, I've always had the best running PC of anyone I know.

For security, I used crappy Norton for a handful of years early on, ran naked for a big chunk of time in the WIN2K and early XP days. Used Windows OneCare or whatever that paid precursor to Defender was, ran MS Antispyware in beta right after MS purchased it from Giant, continued to use it as Defender and Security Essentials. For the past 4 or 5 years I've solely relied on Malwarebytes Premium. But the new version 3 has slowed things down a bit for me. At work we use BitDefender EndPoint Security and I love love LOVE being able to centrally manage security software and decide what modules I want to run. So I went back to where I started it with in the mid 90s and went back to Symantec. After the 60 day free trial ended I signed up for a year of Symantec Endpoint Protection Business for my three computers. If I stay satisfied with it, I'll renew it next year for three years for maximum savings. It does not slow my computers down one bit and I love being in control of how it behaves.
