Fox Urges End to Broadcast Indecency Limits

Mixed feelings here. I don't see much change coming, but they clearly went too far over reacting to the "wardrobe malfunction."

Hadn't heard about the horse. Probably be happier if that were still the case. As for the baby- perhaps a pedophilia case, as in aiding and abetting, is called for.

Does anybody remember season 1 of Game of Thrones episode 5 where they had a scene of an 8 year old boy sucking on his mothere's exposed breast? How could that not have been defined as child pornography(to the viewers who own season 1 discs of GOT,couldn't that be considered owning child pornography?) or paedophilia committed by the woman actress, whom I'm sure was not the 8 year old actor's real mother?

Granted its unusual, but extended breastfeeding until the child is significantly older does occur. And to confuse breastfeeding (or in this case simulated breastfeeding) with pornography seems misguided at best.

Some definitions (I haven't seen the episode in question so those that have will have to comment on whether the scene matches the definition):

por·nog·ra·phy

[pawr-nog-ruh-fee] Show IPA

noun obscene writings, drawings, photographs, or the like, especially thosehaving little or no artistic merit.

pornography
(p???n??r?f?)

n
1.
writings, pictures, films, etc, designed to stimulate sexual excitement
2. the production of such
material
[C19: from Greek pornographos writing of harlots, from porn? aharlot + graphein to write]

Not "pornography," but "CHILD pornography," which everybody seems to be on the warpath about. I'm just asking, could it be considered child pornography? Actually the point of the scene was that the mother was supposed to be a crazy loon & the 8 year old was supposed to be a sickly little kid.

You can't get in trouble with the DVD. I mean, people breast feed their children for way too long sometimes and they don't get any backlash from it, apart from people who don't agree with it. GOT is about shock factor and yeah that one is pretty shocking, but there's a lot of things on that show I'd consider a whole lot worse.

This reaction is most likely due to the butt-kicking the broadcast networks got from the cable and online networks in the Emmy nominations the other day.

More likely due to declining ratings shares for the OTA Networks. Fox wants to put on more racier fare to compete with the cable nets (ie. HBO) and regain that share.

Kinda like the chicken and the egg.

Why are ratings shares declining?? Probably due to the perceived better quality of programming on the cable networks. Or, it's the declining quality of the OTA networks, enabling those viewers to search out alternatives elsewhere...

This reminds me of a Simpsons episode. It's set in the "future". Marge and Homer are watching TV and Marge comments, "Fox turned into a hardcore porn network so gradually I barely even noticed". Perhaps this is the start of that change. :D
