I just received a email from Dish offering a free remote. I went to the website and they are sending a 54.1 remote at no charge. Is this a new promotion?

I noticed that a few weeks ago and have already ordered and received mine. They also have it for half price ($10) if you want another.
I thought I was special, they're sending me one as well. I have no use for the voice remote if it requires reliable internet to use. Maybe I can use it as a doorstop.
Are you giving all your customers the Google remote when the workorder calls for it? Seems silly. I've given a few out, but since there's no difference...

No, I don't have extras. Hoppers get 54.1's and Joeys get 54's til I only have Google Remotes left
I already had four of the 54.0 remotes, and they still sent me one of the new ones for free.
This is odd. I received my free remote and it says (on the back) that it is a 54.0. Yet, it is backlit (turns on when I pick it up). Is back lighting supposed to be the only difference between the 54.0 and 54.1?
They are using the same battery cover door (pre-stamped with 54.0 on it) for all of the 54-series remotes. Open the battery cover door and look at the sticker inside the battery compartment to see which specific model it is. I have already told Dish that this (labeling every remote as a 54.0) may be confusing, and suggested that a new battery door design would help distinguish them.
Other differences between the 54.0 and 54.1 are cosmetic. On the front of the remote, the new models have the new Dish logo and the Google Assistant logo at the bottom of the remote, and the microphone on the button is now brightly colored, unlike the plain white microphone on the original 54.0 remote.
Backlighting is a feature of all of the 54-series remotes.

I doubt they'd know if he purchased one from EBay but they do know if you have a 54.0 remote paired to your Hopper.
